Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Will my generator last longer if I use it as little
as possible?
No. To keep the engine running clean and the windings
dry a generator needs to be run one hours every month under a load
- such as the air conditioning or a heater.
Will a generator's battery generally last longer
than the main engine battery?
No. Lower use and cycling of the battery tends to
shorten it's life. Deep cycle, gel and standard lead batteries all
have different characteristics. As an example, deep cycle batteries
are not the best choice for starting engines.
Do I need to change my generator's oil yearly,
even if I do not use it much?
Yes! Even if the oil looks clean, acid - which can
build up in the oil - is harmful to your generator.
What is the most common cause of gasoline in the
oil on a 2-cyclinder generator?
The most common cause is a bad spark plug. Contributing
factors may be a faulty carburetor, excessive fuel pump pressure,
or a plugged air filter.
